Choose metal roofing when
- You intend to keep the house. Metal costs more up front and stops costing after that.
- The roof is steep, visible, and part of how the house reads from the road.
- You are tired of hail claims. A hail strike dents a metal panel; it fractures a shingle mat.
- Barns, shops and outbuildings, where a shingle roof is a maintenance schedule you do not want.
When it is the wrong answer
- You are selling within a couple of years — you will not be there for the payback.
- The roof has many penetrations and short, chopped-up planes. Every one is a flashing detail, and the labor climbs faster than the material.
- An HOA or historic district that specifies a shingle profile. Brava is usually the answer there instead.

We measure the panels, not the square
Standing seam is cut to the run. The panel length, the rib spacing and the eave-to-ridge measurement decide the order, so the estimate follows a real measurement rather than an aerial square count.

Deck and underlayment first
Metal telegraphs everything under it. Soft decking gets replaced before a panel goes down, because a wave you can see from the street is not something a panel hides.

Flashing is the job
Valleys, sidewalls, chimneys and pipe boots are where a metal roof leaks, if it leaks. That detailing is the part we do not subcontract.
Questions
What people ask us first.
- Is a metal roof loud in the rain?
- Not over a solid deck and underlayment, which is how a residential metal roof is installed. The noise people remember comes from panels screwed straight to open purlins on a barn — no deck, no underlayment, nothing to absorb it.
- Will it make the house hotter?
- The opposite. Metal reflects rather than absorbs, and a light-colored or coated panel sheds radiant heat a dark shingle holds. It matters most in July, which is when it matters.
- Can metal go over the existing shingles?
- Sometimes, and we will tell you when it should not. A recover hides the decking, and if the decking is what failed you have paid to install a new roof over the problem.
- What happens in a hailstorm?
- You may get cosmetic denting. What you do not get is the granule loss and mat fracture that ends a shingle roof — the panel is still watertight after the storm that would have started your claim.
